Beach Wheelchairs

Disability Networks sourced and raised the funds for the beach wheelchairs. We give thanks to all those who contributed. Once the service was established, the chairs were passed on to the commissioners.

Find an adult chair in Peel and both an adult chair and a junior chair for children aged 5- 11 years in Port Erin.

Essential information:

  • Based on the Promenade in Peel and run by Peel Commissioners all year and Port Erin’s Cosy Nook seasonal pop-up when the weather is suitable
  • For the Port Erin chairs book with the Commissioners on 832298. Operates 11am-sundown at the Cosy Nook, ( which is usually closed on Mondays and Tuesdays), the chairs are in the little cabins just on the beach until the end of September. Access is by security code obtained through the commissioners
  • Find the Peel chair near the beach kiosk. A radar key opens the store. See access page for information on buying or borrowing a radar key
  • The chair is manual and you will need someone fit enough to push it
  • Top combined weight of 18 stones permitted in the wheelchair, all items included
  • Ensure the brake is on before getting in to the chair
  • Use the seat belt at all times
  • Put the brakes on when you return the chair
  • The chair is suitable for sandy and shingle beaches. Do not take it on stony beaches
  • Both chairs have a drinks holder and a fishing line holder
  • The adult chairs have a footrest that swings out of the way to improve access
