Wheels 4 All Leadership Training

Manx Sport and Recreation are looking to facilitate a ‘Wheels for ALL Leadership Training’ course for anyone wishing to help out with this initiative! Email zoe.crowe@gov.im

 

The course is aimed at teachers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, health professionals, cycle leaders, disability organisations, coaches, young leaders, volunteers and parents.

The course is both practical and theoretical.
It includes technical information modules on the wide range of adapted cycles used, risk assessments, instruction skills workshop, cycle development and progression through activities, session planning and delivery.
Who is the training aimed at?
Teachers, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, health professionals, physical activity leaders, cycle leaders, care workers, support workers, community volunteers, parents and other family members
What am I qualified to do? Deliver inclusive cycling activities for people with disabilities and differing needs at recognised locations
When – Usually between 9.30am & 4pm
Where – at a venue of your choice or a WFA centre

Course Outcomes
•Candidates will have a broader and more detailed understanding of disability cycling
•Candidates will develop a skill set that will ensure that are prepared, ready and capable of supporting individuals and groups to consider cycling as a credible and accessible form of activity regardless of ability.
•There will be an overall outcome of being able to deliver a safe, structured and enjoyable inclusive cycling activity
Training Structure
•Classroom based tasks and exercises
•Outdoor understanding of adapted cycles and support equipment
•Outdoor practical including delivery of sessions and role play scenario
•Review the day and plan for future engagement with groups and individuals
•Future – WFA to review and observe the trainees participating in real activities
